| John Madden's drama about a daughter (Paltrow) of a mind brilliant mathematician (Hopkins), which also is losing his sanity in late age. The film makes a great transition from the current tension in flashbacks, the film style is great, and the personal performances, strong writing and a great score for the film and photography make this a success overall. The strongest point of Madden's film, I found that in some ways a little similar to that of Ron Howard A Beautiful Mind is the fact that the initiative for their own sanity questions and how to deal with it is brilliant. Paltrow is not my favorite actress, but she showed her talent here in one of his best performances, while Hopkins was also good, my favorite was the performance of Jake Gyllenhaal who is doing well to establish himself as a young actor. that impresses once again as a teacher who studies professor Robert (Hopkins) work. This is a great tragedy. IMDb rating: 7.0, my rating: 10/10 |
| Perhaps my expectations were wrong, but this movie was more about any delay in love and that of a mathematical proof. I was really expecting a little more deeply about the evidence and different jobs, the guy who made about how she cried during her orgasm. The film was disappointing. There was only one person of sound mind and the rest were all crazy. The film was in no sense a "smart" movie. The players with the exception of Anthony Hopkins does not fit the roles. The film was just a waste of my time. |
| Gwyneth Paltrow gives a disturbing picture of a daughter whose devotion to a parent with mental problems was based on his own mental edge. As a care giver for an elderly parent, I am well aware of the fragility of our world and mental performance Paltrow shines with nothing but the truth. His honesty and emotional territory portraits that are "proof" of his integrity as an actress. The film is directed impressive - the script is rhythm and notes compellingly to the viewer in a situation of life that most of us simply refuse to acknowledge and seek to avoid. Once the "great spirit" of our genius is "past" - who are we? Hope Davis as Paltrow's sister does a great job of showing how they are fighting for their "normalacy" is the latest madness. Great overall game by everybody. I recommend this movie. |
